Run your own Lightning store
The store API needs a paid plan: Agentic Commerce ($49/month) or Business (contact us). The Free Producer Sandbox doesn't include it. View pricing
The Lightning Enable store is a storefront that sells print-on-demand merchandise for Lightning payments, to people and to AI agents. You can run your own copy of it, with your own catalog, your own Printful account, and your own Lightning Enable account. Buyers pay Lightning invoices that your payment provider settles; Lightning Enable does not hold funds.
The storefront app is a separate, self-hosted application. Lightning Enable stores its data: orders and their timelines, custom-product designs, quotes, artwork jobs, and community design submissions. Setup guides for the storefront app itself are coming.
How your data is kept separate
Every store record belongs to one Lightning Enable account. When your storefront calls the store API with your API key, it reads and writes only your records:
- Another account's order, design, quote, artwork job or submission answers
404 Not Found, whether you look it up by id, payment hash, claim token or idempotency key. - Order ids, design ids, idempotency keys and claim tokens only need to be unique within your account.
- Lightning payment hashes are unique across all accounts, because a payment hash identifies one Lightning payment. Binding a hash that is already in use returns
409 payment_hash_in_use.
Authenticate
Send your merchant API key in the X-API-Key header, the same key you use for POST /api/payments:
curl https://api.lightningenable.com/api/store-orders/ord_123 \
-H "X-API-Key: YOUR_API_KEY"
The store API covers these route prefixes:
| Prefix | What it stores |
|---|---|
/api/store-orders | Catalog and custom-product orders, and each order's timeline |
/api/store-designs | Custom-product designs, artwork versions, mockups and artwork jobs |
/api/store-quotes | Custom-product price quotes |
/api/community-submissions | Community design submissions |
An account on the Free Producer Sandbox gets 403 with "error": "plan_required". See Plan Required (store API).
The store API has its own rate budget of 600 requests per minute per account, separate from the budget for your other API calls such as POST /api/payments. Over the budget, you get 429 Too Many Requests.
Design files
Community design files and previews that you upload through /api/community-submissions/{submissionId}/design-file and /preview are stored under your account, so another account's submission with the same id never shares your files. A submission id used with these routes can contain only A-Z, a-z, 0-9, _ and -. Deleting a submission deletes its files.
Payments and claims
Your storefront creates each Lightning invoice with POST /api/payments on your account, so payments settle into your payment provider account. When an invoice is paid, Lightning Enable moves only your own matching order to paid. Your storefront sends buyers their claim links; Lightning Enable sends no email to your buyers.
